STEADMAN GBAJUMO
Steadman is a British-Nigerian writer and director from Hackney, East London. He was first inspired to write stories while watching the seemingly endless stream of outlandish and innovative low-budget films from the burgeoning Nollywood film industry. An avid comic book reader from a young age Steadman studied western cinema at university, and began combining the three influences of Nollywood, alternative visual telling of comic books and neo-realist cinema to tell stories in his unique voice. He spent his early career working as a festival assistant and film programmer for the Barbican, East End Film Festival, Open City Docs and Sheffield DocFest. Following a short stint in factual television development, Steadman then turned his attention to screenwriting full time. In 2018 he was a finalist for the Triforce Writerslam, and in 2020 wrote and directed the crime thriller short ‘Dark Heart’. In 2021 his feature screenplay a Nigerian set fantasy epic African Gods, was longlisted for the Netflix Screenwriter’s Fellowship Program. In 2023 his television pilot The Hex was longlisted for the Sister Productions Writers in Residence scheme. Steadman aims to tell stories from rarely seen perspectives across film and television.
