What It Means opens at Wilton’s Music Hall

Come into the world of legendary writer Merle Miller, for 90 minutes you’ll laugh, cry and be in awe as he changes history in the ultimate queer fever dream.

James Corley’s dramatisation of journalist Merle Miller’s 1970 essay Homo/hetero: the struggle for sexual identity opened last night at Wilton’s Music Hall to brilliant reviews. Starring Richard Cant, What It Means is an unexpected, riotous journey through history - some personal, some not - that proves the only way out of the closet is through it.

‘There it was, out at last, and if it seems like nothing very much, I can only say that it took a long time to say it, to be able to say it, and none of the journey was easy.’ Merle Miller

★★★★★ - The Upcoming - “A must-see”

★★★★ - The Guardian - “James Corley cleverly unpicks Miller’s landmark essay, remaking an argument into a collage of anecdote and emotion”

★★★★ - Time Out - "Richard Cant gives a mesmeric turn and an electric performance"

★★★★ - The Stage - "A deeply affecting queer love story."

What It Means runs until 28th October. Read more about the production and book tickets here.
