Laura Carreira’s ON FALLING 2024 Round-Up / Festival dates 2025

2024 saw the World Premiere of Laura Carreira’s debut feature as writer/director, ON FALLING at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film then went on to have its European Premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival, in the Main Competition, where Laura won the coveted Silver Shell Award for Best Director. The film received wide acclaim, receiving a 4-star review from The Guardian. In October 2024, the film had its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, where it won the Sutherland Award for Best Debut Feature (being the first British film to win the Award since 2010.)

There are yet more festival stops on the way in 2025, including the just announced Rotterdam Film Festival in January/February, and a UK cinema-release scheduled for early next year too.

The film was produced by Sixteen Films and Bro Cinema, with the support of the BFI, ICA, BBC Films, Screen Scotland and Goodfellas. The film will be distributed in the UK and Europe by Conic Films.

This has been a fantastic year for Laura and everyone involved in the film, and we couldn’t be more excited for what 2025 will bring!
