Anne Odeke’s PRINCESS ESSEX in Globe Summer Season
Anne Odeke’s new play Princess Essex has just been announced as part of the Globe Theatre’s Summer season!
It’s Southend-on-Sea, Essex, in 1908. Princess Dinubolu of Senegal enters a beauty contest at the iconic Kursaal, Europe’s biggest entertainment complex. Anne writes and stars in this fast-paced, music-filled, empowering comedy based on the incredible true story of the first woman of colour to enter a beauty pageant in the UK.
Robin Belfield (Twelfth Night, RSC) makes his debut at The Globe directing this inspiring story of bravery, beauty and belonging.
Anne is part of the Orange Tree Theatre’s Writers Collective, and her work has previously been performed at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, Storyhouse Chester, and the Bush Theatre.
