LOUIS CHAN

Louis is a London-based Malaysian/Jamaican British writer and director. His highly accomplished debut narrative short film STATIONARY was released in 2020 and won Best Film at the Performance Short Film Awards, and the Audience Choice Award at the Emerging Filmmaker’s Night Summer Showcase, and also won Best Short Film at the Cardiff Film Festival. As a writer, his work is daring, intelligent and packed with energy. Louis is currently developing a feature project MANIC MUM, a black comedy family drama, with BFI Vision Award winning producer and Screen Star of Tomorrow, Chi Thai. He is also developing a comedy anthology short series: TAKIN’ L’s, with his brother Bruin, and has previously directed sketches for the BBC Comedy Writers room. In 2021 he directed a live Sky Table read for DNA Films, with writer Nikhil Parmar, and also shot/produced a couple of proof of concept comedy shorts for TAKIN’ L’s entitled “Roadman Au Pair” and “Sticks of Fury” the latter of which stars Keiyon Cook and Demmy Ladipo. “Sticks of Fury” had its debut at the LFF in 2022 and has since toured across multiple festivals in Europe. It became a Vimeo Short Pick of the Week and was also showcased at the 2023 BBC Comedy Festival in Cardiff. “Roadman Au Pair” has been officially selected for the Raindance Film Festival 2023, with Monumental Pictures (GHOSTS) developing the short film for TV adaptation, with Louis and Bruin writing. His original pilot BAD NAI NAI is currently in development with Fully Focused and the BBC.
